Stranger Things

“A love letter to the '80s classics that captivated a generation, Stranger Things is set in 1983 Indiana, where a young boy vanishes into thin air. As friends, family and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl.”

Taking inspiration from the works of Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, Stephen King, and George Lucas, among others, "Stranger Things", the Duffer Brothers (Writers/Directors) and Netflix sci-fi/horror series, pays perfect homage to '80s pop culture. The series is a treasure trove of '80s references. In this post, I am listing down the references I most like in the series. Let's begin.

1) The kids on their bikes – Reminiscent of the movie, “E.T.”

2) Toothless asking Eleven to levitate their toy Millennium Falcon with her mind - This is an obvious reference to a scene in the movie "Zapped" (starring Scott Baio).

3) Trapper Keeper binders. These were popular way back when. I remember having the same type of binder but of a different brand. Anyway, moving on.

4) "Lando Calrissian" - While hiding in a bus from the bad men, Mike and the gang were radioed by Chief Hopper. Toothless exclaims "Lando Calrissian" and tells Mike not to answer for it could be a trap. Lando Calrissian, ofcourse, is the character who betrays Han Solo in the movie, The Empire Strikes Back

5) Dungeons and Dragons, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, comics and Star Wars references. Geek is cool!

6) Shots reminiscent of scenes from John Hughes' films.

7) And then there's that weird song that Will Byers likes so much -

"Should I Stay or Should I Go" by The Clash

Moonlight Blue

Here's R.O.S.E. with an original song called "Moonlight Blue".

New Year's Eve Jam 2017 at Copernico Street, Bgy. San Isidro, Makati City. R.O.S.E. is composed of lead vocalist and lyricist Hilario Dela Cruz Guting, bassist and backup vocalist Marco Maiquez, drummer Sydney Gabrillo and guitarist Lawrence Manansala (yours truly)

Moonlight Blue
lyrics by Hilario Dela Cruz Guting

When I saw you
I didn't know a thing of what to do
My heart is racing like I run with you
Into the moonlight blue

My world just stopped
Everyone's in motion but I am stuck
Can't explain this feeling and I feel so dumb
Someone help me understand

You're the one for me
My heart says perfectly
Unconditionally, loving you constantly
You're the one for me
My heart says truthfully
I want you to be with me eternally
We're meant to be

Now I'm with you
I'll do everything to make it true
My mind is purposely in love with you
Into the moonlight blue

You're the one for me
My heart says perfectly
Unconditionally, loving you constantly
You're the one for me
My heart says truthfully
I want you to be with me eternally
We're meant to be
