Top Ten Stoner and Rock and Roll-Themed Movies

Here's a list of my favorite Stoner and Rock and Roll-Themed movies.

Dazed and Confused - Set in 1976, "Dazed and Confused" looks into the activities of certain high school students on the last day of school. Dazed and confused stars Milla Jovovich, Jason London, and Matthew McConaughey.

Rude Awakening - "Rude Awakening" stars Eric Roberts and Cheech Marin. In order to avoid arrest by the FBI, two hippies (Roberts and Marin) flee the city and head to the jungles of Central America to build a Utopian society. 20 years later, while still living in the jungle, they find a CIA agent who has been shot by local soldiers who gives them documents revealing that the US Government plans to invade Central America. Thus, the two decide to return to the US to stop the plan only to be shocked that their friends had turned into yuppies and have embraced the materialistic culture of the '80s.

The Stoned Age - In "The Stoned Age", we follow two rockers over one night on their quest to hook up with two foreign radical chicks.

Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey - A tyrant from the future sends evil andorid doubles of Bill and Ted to eliminate the original Bill and Ted in an attempt to rewrite future history.

Detroit Rock City - In this road trip comedy, we follow four members of the high school band Mystery as they do everything just to attend a KISS concert in Detroit.

Wayne's World 1 and 2 - Wayne's World 1 and 2 came from a Saturday Night Live sketch in which Mike Myers (Wayne Campbell) and Dana Carvey (Garth Algar) play two metal head slackers who host a public access television program called "Wayne's World" broadcasted live from the basement of Wayne's parents.

In "Wayne's World 1", a Prime Time TV station took notice of Wayne and Garth's show and decide to hire the two to do "Wayne's World" professionally. As the pair move up big time, they find that their show is no longer the same. Wayne also falls in love with Cassandra (played by Tia Carrere), a Chinese-American vocalist of a heavy metal band.

In "Wayne's World 2", Wayne tries to organize a rock concert in Aurora, Illinois after seeing Jim Morrison in a dream while at the same time, finding a way to chase off a record producer who has an eye for his girlfriend Cassandra.

The Doors movie - Directed by Oliver Stone, “The Doors” tells the story of 1960s rock band The Doors and its lead singer, Jim Morrison. The Doors stars Val Kilmer and Meg Ryan.

Almost Famous - "Almost Famous" tells the coming-of-age story of teenage music journalist, William Miller, who was hired by Rolling Stone magazine to write about fictitious rock band Stillwater. Almost famous is directed by Cameron Crowe and stars Patrick Fugit, Billy Crudup, Jason Lee, Zooey Deschanel and Kate Hudson.

School of Rock - Recently fired guitarist Dewey Finn (Jack Black) pretends to be his roommate Ned Schneebly and accepts a job as a substitute teacher in an expensive private school where he finds a group of talented young musicians whom he transformed into a rock and roll band to win the prize in a "Battle of the Bands" competition.

The Rocker - 20 years after unexpectedly getting kicked out of his band, Robert "Fish" Fishman (Rainn Wilson) gets a second chance to fulfill his rock star fantasies as he gets to sit in with his nephew's high school rock band A.D.D which is looking for a new drummer. The Rocker also stars Emma Stone, Josh Gad and Teddy Geiger.

Can't Buy Me Love

So that he will become popular, nerdy high school senior Ronald Miller (Patrick Dempsey, McDreamy in Grey’s Anatomy) secretly pays the most popular girl in school, Cindy Mancini (Amanda Peterson), a thousand dollars to pretend to be his girlfriend for a month (she needed the money to replace her mom’s suede jacket which got stained and which she wore to a party without permission). Donald’s plan works but he soon finds out he got more than he bargained for.

I absolutely love this movie. This is one of those films I watched growing up and which made an impression on me. Sad to hear about the passing of Amanda Peterson. She was great in this movie. A young Seth Green (Austin Powers) also makes an appearance. He plays Ronald Miller’s pesky little brother. Another thing I like in this movie is Cindy’s car, a white Volkswagen Cabriolet. The same car driven by Heather Graham in the movie, “License to Drive”.

This movie is very charming. Very ‘80s. And I mean that in a good way.

Goodbye Amanda Peterson.

Here's the Pinstriped Rebels

I once played rhythm guitar and some keyboard for a band called Pinstriped Rebels.
